In the wake of Lady Gaga, Rihanna, and Katy Perry, it seems as if everyone is trying to shock and be different these days. Seeing brightly colored hair and makeup has become both the norm in both celebrity culture and around town. Items of clothing that were once intended to be edgy and shocking (think shoes, shirts and accessories with spikes, crop tops, and exposed zippers) are now becoming exceedingly normal. It seems as if the present is now catching up to previously futuristic forward thinking Avant Garde fashion. There is only so far you can go with this before it starts losing its shock value and people start looking for a different aesthetic. It is entirely possible that we may begin to swing back in the other direction towards a more conservative culture. How soon may that happen? Only time will tell.
